First Follow Up | Second Follow Up
MVSU NCLB 2017 Summer Reading Institute is a scientific research-based program targeted 20 in-service literacy teachers from grades six to twelve from Greenwood, Leflore, Sunflower, and Greenville public school districts. They are provided with materials and guidance focusing on the best practices in literacy,using the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), following the model designed by the Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers(PARCC), and Mississippi Language Arts Framework.
The goals of the project are to
(a) help teachers use Bloom’s Taxonomy, Schema Theory, and the Madeline Hunter Method of guiding teaching and planning of reading;
(b) help teachers plan for rigorous and deep learning experiences guided by the Common Core State Standards;
(c) help teachers design and use formative assessments to identify the strengths and weaknesses of students and how they can be addressed through teaching;
(d) enhance technology literacy of teachers to prepare students for their literacy future; and (e) embrace continuous learning to make informed decisions on what to teach and how to teach reading.
This year, the institute was held during the month of July. We had 20 participants.
Follow up sessions will be held in October 22 and February 25.
