Credit hour requirements for graduation
The curriculum for the Master of Science program in Environmental Health has provisions for a thesis and non-thesis option. The requirements for completion of each are as follows:
Thesis Option: Students complete a minimum of thirty-four (34) hours of course work in water resource management, thirty-five (35) hours in environmental quality control, or thirty-five (35) hours in environmental management. In addition, students complete original research in environmental health, a thesis and a thesis defense, and pass both an oral and written comprehensive exams.
Non-Thesis Option: Students complete a minimum of thirty-four (34) hours of course work in water resource management, thirty-five (35) hours in environmental quality control, or thirty-five (35) hours in environmental management. In addition, students must complete an 8-10 weeks internship, in environmental health and pass both an oral and written comprehensive exam. All students are required to take core courses that will expose them to analytical, communication and administrative skills and knowledge in the field of environmental health. Students then complete the remainder hours in their chosen area of concentration.
A minimum of 40 semester hours, including the thesis or internship, with a grade point average of 3.0 or better in courses approved for graduate credit is required for the Master of Science Degree.
Mississippi Valley State University will accept graduate credits earned at a recognized institution upon recommendation of the Department and the approval of the dean of the Graduate School. Only the courses for which a student has received a grade of B or higher may be transferred. Unsatisfactory grades that are earned at this University may not be substituted for credits earned at another institution. Grades of A or B earned at another institution may not be used to offset a lower grade earned at this University. The institution from which credit earned must offer a graduate degree in the field in which the credit has been completed. Only 6 credit hours can be transferred from another institution.
