MVSU Homecoming 2024: "For the Love of Valley" – A Week of Excitement, Unity, and Tradition

Thrill and excitement fill the air at Mississippi Valley State University as students, faculty, staff, and alums eagerly prepare for the 2024 MVSU Homecoming Celebration. This year's theme, "For the Love of Valley," will shine through in exhilarating events, cherished traditions, and warm reunions.

The celebration begins on Sunday, October 13, 2024, with the "For the Love of R&B Sunday: Foam Party." Students will dance the night away to the latest tunes while enjoying the excitement of a foam-filled party. As the week progresses, a mix of traditional and new events will honor the spirit of Valley.

Traditional Homecoming Highlights:

  • Royal Crowning of Mr. and Miss MVSU CoronationThursday, October 17, 2024
  • MVSU Homecoming Football GameSaturday, October 19, 2024
    • Watch the MVSU Delta Devils take on the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats at Rice-Totten Stadium.

Exciting New Additions:

  • All of the Lights: Fireworks on the Water – A spectacular fireworks display will light up the night sky on Monday, October 14, 2024.
  • For the Love of the Yard Stroll Off: On Saturday, October 19, 2024, Expect thunderous stomps and loud cheers from Greek organizations in this electrifying competition.

Jerome Petty, Director of Campus Life at MVSU, shares his anticipation for this week of joy and unity:

"Homecoming fosters school spirit, unites our community, and creates unforgettable memories for our students," Petty remarked. "This year, we're excited to combine music and education in new ways, particularly during the 'Raising the Bar' event, which will elevate students' perspectives on the resources available to them."

Senior Biology major and Student Government Association (SGA) President JaMya Peoples is incredibly excited about her final undergraduate homecoming. "I'm thrilled for Homecoming Week, especially the 'Fireworks on the Water.' I believe it will be a beautiful moment of togetherness," she shared.

Peoples is also preparing for a personal milestone with the SGA Inauguration on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, where she will be sworn in as the MVSU SGA President. "It's a proud and memorable moment for me, and I can't wait to represent my fellow students."

Byron Cartlidge, Chief of University Police, emphasizes the importance of safety during the festivities: "We've implemented safety measures, including increased police presence, peer accountability, and the buddy system, to ensure everyone enjoys a safe and memorable homecoming."
