ITTA BENA, MS – Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) is proud to announce its 2024 Fall Convocation, set to take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2024, in the Walter Roberts Auditorium located within the H.G. Carpenter Building. The event will feature a keynote address by Dr. Miskia L. Davis, Superintendent of the Sunflower County Consolidated School District.
Dr. Davis, a lifelong resident of the Mississippi Delta, brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the field of education. With an impressive educational background that includes a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Chemistry from Delta State University and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from William Carey University, Dr. Davis has dedicated her career to improving the lives of disadvantaged children through education.
Throughout her career, Dr. Davis has served in various capacities, including teacher, principal, and assistant superintendent, before being appointed as the superintendent of the Sunflower County Consolidated School District. Her passion for education and commitment to equity have led to significant academic gains in critical needs schools under her leadership.
"To grow children, much like flowers, you must plant them in fertile ground and intentionally care for them daily," said Dr. Davis. Her philosophy emphasizes empowering teachers and leaders, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to succeed.
In addition to her professional achievements, Dr. Davis is known for her strong belief in the power of education to transform lives and communities. Her keynote address is expected to inspire and motivate the MVSU community as they embark on a new academic year.
