Why should you consider an advanced degree? How will you finance your graduate education? What program of study is the best fit for you?
For the answer to these questions and many more attend the Mississippi Valley State University Graduate School Expo to be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017 in the William A. Butts Social Science Auditorium on the campus of MVSU. The expo is a free event.
Dr. Curressia M. Brown, acting chair/assistant professor in the Department of Business said the event is a great opportunity to spread the word about the graduate programs at MVSU.
“For many years, a high school diploma was the ‘gold standard’ for educational attainment. Then the bar was raised, and the standard became a college degree. Now, the bar has moved yet again - this time, the ‘gold standard’ is a degree in graduate or professional studies. MVSU’s Graduate School Expo, co-hosted by the graduate degree programs at MVSU, and is designed to showcase the exceptional opportunities for graduate study that exist here, at the Valley,” said Brown.
“There are currently eleven graduate programs at MVSU. These programs are offered through eight academic departments and include one, the Master of Business Administration, completely online. The deadline for graduate school applications for fall 2017 is March 15, 2017. The Expo is an opportunity for interested students to explore their options, to speak one-on-one with program staff, admissions and financial aid counselors, and to get a head start on the application process.”
Brown added that the event is also a chance to de-mystify graduate studies from application to graduation.
“This program is for those who are not yet sure whether graduate studies is the path for them as well as those who have already decided that graduate study is the next step. We want to encourage prospective students with the invitation, to inspire them with information, then empower them for successful matriculation at MVSU,” explained Brown.
The graduate programs at Mississippi Valley State include: Master of Business Administration, Master of Science in Criminal Justice, Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Science in Elementary Education, Master of Science in Special Education, Master of Science in Sport Administration, Master of Arts in Convergent Media, Master of Science in Bioinformatics, Master of Science in Environmental Health, Master of Arts in Rural Public Policy and Planning and Master of Social Work.
