Dr. William Bynum, president of Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU), has been named chair of the NCAA Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and Limited-Resource Institutions Academic Advisory Group.
This group serves in an advisory capacity to the Committee on Academic Performance (CAP) on policy-related issues. The formation of this group is based on an in-depth examination of Academic Performance Rate trends indicating that a higher proportion of HBCU and other LRI teams are subject to Academic Performance Program penalties.
“As a former collegiate student-athlete, I believe I have a unique perspective and can offer needed insight on a number of issues that are impacting HBCUs & Limited Resource Institutions (LRIs),” said Bynum. “Teaming with Dr. Bernard Franklin and Wendy Walters, both NCAA administrators, I believe this group is poised to be a viable voice and champion for HBCUs & LRIs and their student-athletes. I am excited to continue building upon the work completed by Dr. Harold Martin, former chair and chancellor of North Carolina A&T State University; and committee members.”
Bynum also serves as a member of the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee.
