After being postponed in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the SWAC Alumni Association Legends Awards and Roast, presented by the Southwestern Athletic Conference, is now back on the schedule, and two Mississippi Valley State University staffers will be honored.

LeChondia Nelson, MVSU Athletics Business Operations Manager, and Willie Totten, assistant football coach at MVSU, will be honored during the SWAC Alumni Association Legends Awards and Roast on Saturday, May 28, 2022, in Birmingham, Ala.

The four-year journey for many Mississippi Valley State University students culminated on Saturday, May 7, at the Rice-Totten Stadium for the school’s 70th Commencement exercise.

When John and Gladys McCall were informed that their then three-year-old son Jamarkus had autism, they were uncertain of his future.

Fast forward 18 years later, and the young man who was initially told he would probably be a C-student is about to graduate from Mississippi Valley State University with a 3.94-grade-point-average and a Bachelor of Arts degree in visual communication and graphic design.

After an extensive search, Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) is excited to announce the hiring of Melton Harvey, II., as the school’s new Director of University Bands. Harvey will step into the new role on May 15, 2022.

The Office of Academic Affairs at Mississippi Valley State University is excited to announce Dr. Lin Knutson as the 2021-2022 Humanities Teacher of the Year.

“I feel honored, humbled, and valuable to the university for being named Teacher of the Year by the Mississippi Humanities Council. This award allowed me to reflect on teaching and its importance,” said Knutson.

Mississippi Valley State University’s Mathematics, Computer, and Information Science (MCIS) Department is one of seven Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and three National Research Laboratories which include, Lawrence-Livermore (LLNL), Brookhaven (BNL), and National Renewable Energy (NREL) to develop the AI-CyS research partnership at the intersection of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
