Celebrating its 3rd year, Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) will host its Annual First Lady’s Scholarship Luncheon on October 20, 2016 at the Historic Elk’s Lodge in Greenwood. Title sponsors for the luncheon are The City of Greenwood, Fred and Margaret Clark, and Priority One Group, Inc.
Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) is the Tom Joyner Foundation’s (TJF) School of the Month for August 2016.
During the month of August, donations for MVSU will be prompted through the TJF’s radio station, website and social media.
100% of the donations will help generate funds for MVSU.
Music majors rejoice, the Department of Fine Arts at Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) will offer a new concentration during Fall 2016.
Students will have the opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree in music with an emphasis in sound recording technology.
“It will be a music degree with an emphasis on the fundamental principles of audio and audio mixing,” said Dr. Alphonso Sanders, chair of Fine Arts.
Dr. Emmanuel Amadi, chair of criminal justice department at Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU), recently published an article in the American International Journal of Contemporary Research titled, ‘Exploring the Extent to Which Cyber Security is Essential to Homeland Security.’Amadi said the purpose of the article is to help nations improve cyber security and highlight areas of infrastructure that are in need of improvement.
The Office of Communications and Marketing staff at Mississippi Valley State University recently won four awards at the College Public Relations Association of Mississippi (CPRAM) Conference held in Ocean Springs, Miss. on May 23-24.
The University’s Communiqué won a second place award in the newsletter category. On the winning team were Maxine Greenleaf, director; and Joseph Cotton, associate graphic designer.
Dr. William Bynum, president of Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU), has been named chair of the NCAA Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and Limited-Resource Institutions Academic Advisory Group.
This group serves in an advisory capacity to the Committee on Academic Performance (CAP) on policy-related issues. The formation of this group is based on an in-depth examination of Academic Performance Rate trends indicating that a higher proportion of HBCU and other LRI teams are subject to Academic Performance Program penalties.

Student government president Derrick Jones helped assess the accuracy of a flood simulation model while interning for the National Weather Service in Jackson. The internship was his second at the National Weather Service as part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Educational Partnership Program.
“The goal was to test the flood extent simulation model against the hydrologic branch sites,” Jones said.
U.S. Representative Bennie Thompson brought the MVSU Department of Mass Communications to national attention by highlighting the accomplishments of two prominent members of the faculty.
“I never thought that one day, my name would be mentioned on the floor of the Congress of the United States,” said Dr. Samuel Osunde, department chair of mass communications.
