The opportunity of a lifetime will only last as long as the lifetime of the opportunity, so when Caleb Brunson and Andre Williams Jr. had the chance to become student commentators for the Mississippi Valley State University home basketball games, the two jumped at it.

The Office of Academic Affairs at Mississippi Valley State University is excited to announce Dr. Lemondra Hamilton as the 2022-2023 Humanities Teacher of the Year.
Dr. Hamilton is an Assistant Professor of Music Education at MVSU, an accompanist for University Choirs, and a certified Orff-Schulwerk Specialist.
Mississippi Valley State University will celebrate Black History Month with its annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Black History Convocation.
The theme for this year’s event is “Black Resistance,” which will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, at the H.G. Carpenter Building in the Walter Roberts Auditorium.
The keynote speaker will be Mississippi Delta native Ty Pinkins, a veteran, lawyer, author, and former Communications Aide to the President of the United States.
Heidi Hankins, a senior sociology major from Charleston, Miss., at Mississippi Valley State University, has been awarded the Gilman Scholarship and will study abroad in Florence, Italy, during the Spring 2023 semester.

Janani Kunrathur Pasupathy, of Chennai, India, and Jasmine Wallace, of Greenwood, have been given research opportunities that opened the door for new research interests and networking options through the Mississippi Valley State University Bioinformatic graduate program.
ITTA BENA — Mississippi Valley State University graduates received encouraging words on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, from Anthony “Tony” Mitchell, who shared with students four life lessons to help correct them for where they are going.
Nearly 130 graduates participated in the Fall 2022 exercises, including Mitchell, who explained to the audience that he never had the opportunity to participate in his commencement exercise.

Wayne Compton is an accomplished young man who, at 22 years old, has overcome severe loss but has persevered to make sure his "can do" is always greater than his "can't do."
When hearing Compton's story, several questions may arise. Questions like; "Can a person suffer from tragedy and triumph simultaneously? How does one ultimately triumph after tragedy? Can tragedy lead to triumph?"
