MVSU Announces Recipients of the 2024 MACTE Excellence in Education Awards

The Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) Education Department is proud to announce the recipients of the 2024 Mississippi Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (MACTE) Excellence in Education Awards. The awards recognize outstanding contributions and dedication in the field of education among Mississippi's colleges and universities. This year's distinguished honorees from MVSU include:

  • Dr. Margie Pulley - Outstanding Administrator
  • Jasmine Joiner - Outstanding Teacher Intern
  • Angela L. Roberson - Outstanding Professional Educator

Dr. Theresa Dumas, Acting Department Chair of MVSU’s Education Department, expressed her pride: "These educators worked diligently to ensure students are prepared and successful."

The MACTE Excellence in Education Awards Ceremony is held annually to honor educators from various Mississippi colleges and universities for their exceptional service. The 2024 ceremony occurred on June 25, 2025, at Mississippi College in Clinton, MS.

MACTE, affiliated with the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, comprises departments and schools from Mississippi’s regionally accredited colleges and universities that prepare professional school personnel. The organization is dedicated to supporting and enhancing all aspects of education in Mississippi and works closely with the Mississippi Department of Education and other statewide education groups.

Dr. Kalanya Moore, Director of the Office of Field Experiences and Clinical Practice, and Dr. Dumas shared insight on the three award recipients.

Student Intern Award: Jasmine Joiner

Joiner, a native of Tunica, MS, has been honored with the 2024 MACTE Student Intern award. Joiner demonstrated exceptional dedication by creating rigorous and holistic learning experiences for young children. Her student teaching platform, Partnering with Families, effectively intertwined family goals with instructional goals, fostering an inclusive and collaborative educational environment. Her proactive communication with parents significantly contributed to the educational success of her students, making her a deserving recipient of this prestigious award.

Outstanding Administrator: Dr. Margie Pulley

Dr. Pulley, Superintendent of the Tunica County School District, has been recognized for her outstanding leadership. She has facilitated the implementation of research-based strategies and professional growth opportunities for MVSU pre-service teachers and student teachers. Dr. Pulley ensures a strong and inclusive school-university partnership, promoting professional development across the continuum of pre-service and in-service educators and university faculty.

Outstanding Educator: Ms. Angela Roberson

Roberson, a 26-year veteran teacher and mentor, has been honored for her exceptional contributions to the MVSU Department of Education. As a Mentor Teacher and Praxis Trainer, she has tirelessly worked in the Greenwood Public School District and Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District. Roberson’s role as a K-6 Mentor Teacher involves designing and implementing pre-candidacy teaching components that provide invaluable first-hand teaching experience. Her continuous collaboration with the department has significantly enhanced the quality of teacher education at MVSU.
