MVSU’s King advances education through competitive SELI fellowship

ITTA BENA, Miss.—Philemon King, a rising junior at Mississippi Valley State University, is spending his summer changing the narrative about educational opportunities in the South after landing a competitive fellowship with the Southern Education Leadership Initiative (SELI).  

SELI is an intensive, eight-week, paid summer fellowship for emerging leaders interested in advancing racial equity and improving education across the pre-k through college continuum. 

Williams helps students “breakthrough” college barriers during summer internship

ITTA BENA, Miss.—Mississippi Valley State University senior JaQuana Williams never realized all that went into being a teacher—that is until she joined the staff at Breakthrough Atlanta, a program devoted to increasing educational opportunities to underserved students, as a summer intern.

Now, the English/Mass Communication major has a new respect for the profession.

2019 MVSU grad Idehen to join FedEx as software developer

ITTA BENA, Miss.—An internship turned out to be the perfect segue into the corporate world for Emmanuel Idehen, a 2019 graduate of Mississippi Valley State University.

Idehen, who received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science on May 4th, has been extended the opportunity to join the FedEx team in Memphis as a software developer.

He officially began his new position on June 16th.

MVSU Communications & Marketing team brings home 13 CPRAM awards

ITTA BENA, Miss.— The Mississippi Valley State University Office of Communications and Marketing team brought home 13 awards recently during the College Public Relations Association of Mississippi’s (CPRAM’s) annual conference.

Hosted May 20-21, this year’s conference, themed “Innovate” was held at the McGowan Workforce Training Center, located at Holmes Community College’s Ridgeland campus.

Hampton lands publishing internship at University Press of Mississippi

ITTA BENA, Miss.—Mississippi Valley State University’s Jamireia Hampton is spending this summer at the University Press of Mississippi (UPM) as a McRae Publishing Intern.

Through the McRae Publishing Internship, the UPM offers a singular educational opportunity to young men and women interested in book publishing to start their careers as interns and gain valuable practical knowledge about the publishing industry.
