UB II students host STEM training, premiers short film "I Too Matter"

Students in the Mississippi Valley State University Upward Bound II (UBII) program have been hard at work since April participating in a series of learning activities in STEM education and video production.

The group participated in STEM training when the program hosted its first Teaching Through Technology Training in April. Recently, the students completed and premiered a short film entitled “I Too Matter” on campus.

MVSU set to honor 2020 graduates Friday, June 25 with in-person ceremony

The Mississippi Valley State University Community will celebrate graduates from the 2020 Spring and Fall classes at 8 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2021, at the Rice-Totten Stadium. Both classes received a virtual commencement due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Still, they will now be honored with an in-person ceremony to allow each student to share in all the celebration that comes with a traditional MVSU commencement.

Former SGA president takes on Ph.D. program at Yale University.

Former Mississippi Valley State University Student Government Association President and Spring 2021 graduate Jhah Cook has chosen to attend Yale University to obtain her Ph.D. in Philosophy.

Cook plans to study in the neuroscience track of the combined program in the biological and biomedical sciences in the fall term of 2021.

MVSU Alum Spotlight: Ellis Receives Prestigious Military Promotion

On April 2, 1998, Mississippi Valley State University Alum, Angela Ellis joined the Mississippi Army National Guard as a 17-year old Private (E1).

Twenty-three years later, Ellis is making history as she was promoted to Sergeant Major (E9), making her the first female to be promoted to this rank in the 210th Finance Support Group. Ellis is also the first African American female Command Sergeant Major in the state of Mississippi.
