Mississippi Valley State University recently opened its doors to members of the U.S. Marines and other military personnel. Military personnel will be housed in two residence halls on the Itta Bena campus through August.
Acting President Jerryl Briggs made the decision following the tragedy of 16 servicemen losing their life in a fatal plane crash just a few miles from the MVSU campus.
“MVSU wanted to show our support for the U.S. Marine Corps and all military members,” said Dr. Briggs. “We want to extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the servicemen involved in this tragedy. This tragedy touches us all very deeply, and as a Marine myself, I want to make sure our MVSU community offers assistance in any way possible. We want to make sure U.S. Marine Corps personnel are as comfortable as possible during their stay on our campus.”
While on campus, military personnel will have access to recreational, laundry and dining facilities.
