ITTA BENA, Miss.— Mississippi Valley State University officials have been hard at work gearing up for the Annual Spring High School Day which brings thousands of prospective students and parents to learn more about all things Valley.
This year’s event is slated for Friday, March 29, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in MVSU’s R.W. Harrison Sports Complex.
“High School Day invites students, parents, and high school counselors to the campus to give them a glimpse of what campus life is like,” said Michael Taylor, executive director of enrollment management and MVSU’s Greenville Higher Education Center. “The most important aspect of what they will be presented are the academic components of what we offer, followed by the aspects of campus life that help balance the academics.”
During the event, students and their parents will have the opportunity to speak with academic departments about courses, academic requirements and the classroom environment.
In addition, the Mean Green Marching Machine Band will provide entertainment and students and residential life representatives are to speak to prospective students about life on campus.
Once the period of formal information and greeting of students ends, students will be given the opportunity to explore The Valley for themselves.
“There will be tours of the campus for students and parents,” Taylor said. “This will give the students an opportunity to look at our classrooms, residence halls, athletic facilities, student union, administrative offices and other aspects of the campus they’d like to experience.”
“Students will be experiencing virtually all of the services that the school has to offer,” he added.
Taylor said students will also be given the opportunity to take advantage of on-site admissions during the event.
“Students can register with admissions the day of the event. That is our ultimate goal—to have convinced them after this experience that Mississippi Valley is the right place for them to pursue higher education.”
