Award-winning poet Sonia Sanchez to visit MVSU Nov. 29

ITTA BENA, Miss.-- Renowned poet, playwright, professor, activist Sonia Sanchez will visit Mississippi Valley State University Wednesday, Nov. 29, as part of the Zelma T. Howard Lecture Series.

Themed “The Power of Poetry: Sonia Sanchez’s Dynamic Voice”, the lecture will be hosted at 10 a.m. in MVSU’s Science and Technology Center Auditorium. It will include a special poetry reading by Sanchez and will conclude with a question and answer session and a book signing.

The event is free and open to the general public.

MVSU Choir set to hold annual Christmas concert Nov. 30

ITT BENA, Miss. — The Mississippi Valley State University Choir and Valley Singers are encouraging the community to embrace the holiday spirit with their sixth annual Christmas concert.

Themed, “O Holy Night”, the event will be hosted at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at First Presbyterian Church, located at 300 Main St. in Greenwood.

The concert is free and open to the general public. 

University leaders receive Seven Seals Award

JACKSON, Miss.—Mississippi Valley State University President Dr. Jerryl Briggs was among Mississippi public university leaders to receive the Seven Seals Award during the Oct. 16 IHL Board of Trustees meeting in Jackson.

The award was presented by the Mississippi Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (MSESGR) in recognition of a significant individual or organizational achievement, initiative, or support that promotes and supports the ESGR mission.
