Textbook Assistance

The Textbook Assistance Program provides financial assistance to MVSU students experiencing financial hardships as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding is primarily made possible through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III (HEERF III), as authorized by the American Rescue Plan (ARP), Public Law 117-2. To help lower the cost of attendance, this program provides up to $1,000 to students for required course materials (i.e., textbooks, lab manuals, and access codes) available through the MVSU Bookstore.

Who is eligible to receive the textbook assistance?

MVSU undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in (and not withdrawn from) Summer I 2023 are eligible to receive financial assistance for textbooks.

Do I have to complete a FAFSA to be eligible for the textbook assistance?

No. Students do not have to have a FAFSA on file; however, students that are eligible for student financial aid should complete the FAFSA to ensure that you take advantage of all financial resources needed to cover your college expenses. More specifically, if all course materials exceed the $1,000, students will need to cover the remaining balance using the MVSU Campus Card (which requires that you have financial aid).

If funds are not available on your Campus Card, you will need to use another acceptable payment method such as cash or credit card.

Do I have to be eligible to receive financial aid?

No. Students do not have to be eligible to receive financial aid to receive the textbook assistance. If all course materials exceed the $1,000, students will need to use another acceptable payment method such as cash or credit card.

Am I eligible to receive the textbook assistance if I am enrolled in online courses only?

Yes. Students taking online courses only are eligible. Course materials can be mailed to students that cannot pick up materials from the MVSU Bookstore. Students must select "Shipping" on the Textbook Assistance Request Form to have items shipped to them.

How can the textbook assistance be used?

MVSU will provide financial assistance to cover required course materials only (i.e., textbooks, lab manuals, and access codes) available through the MVSU Bookstore as well as shipping/handling fees, if applicable.

If I do not use the entire $1,000, will the remaining balance be refunded to me?

No, the funds are non-refundable and will not be sent to the student for a refund. This program will also adhere to the MVSU Bookstore Policies and Procedures.

When can I submit my order for course materials?

You can start your order now! You will also need to complete the following documents:

  • Textbook Assistance Request/Campus Card Consent Forms
  • Pickup
  • Shipping
  • Class Schedule

Applications must be submitted by June 14, 2023.

What should I do if my class schedule changes?

If a student's class schedule changes as a result of adding a new class, the student should submit updated Textbook Assistance Request/Campus Card Consent forms and class schedule. The updated Textbook Assistance Request Form must include all course materials required for the updated class schedule. Students will be financially responsible for any course materials for classes that do not appear on their class schedule.

Who can I contact if I have additional questions?

If your question is not answered here, email textbook@mvsu.edu.  Emails will be responded to within 48 business hours in the order in which they were received.
