The MVSU HEP awards scholarships to those participants that scores 8+ on the TABE (Tests of Adult Basic Education). The Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE) is a broad achievement test that measures basic skills in reading, mathematics, language, vocabulary, and spelling. The complete battery of tests can be completed in approximately four hours. However, the MVSU HEP only administers the reading and mathematics components of the TABE, which consists of 140 multiple-choice questions (50 reading questions and 90 mathematics questions). Potential participants will have 120 minutes (2 hours) to complete this abridged version of the TABE. The TABE assessment is scheduled for the participants, after a completed application to the MVSU HEP project is submitted.
Upon completion of the TABE and meeting the required score, the participant is then awarded an MVSU HEP scholarship that allows the participant to receive the free services offered by the MVSU HEP whcih ranges from free GED classes to free dormitory housing on the MVSU campus.
